The Gea Gemini, Taurus and Virgo are modern world globe bars that differ in size but are nearly identical in design. They are part of the Gea Collection (Gaia in English) by the famous Italian manufacturer Zoffoli, a series of globes and bar globes made of high quality materials with finely detailed ochre and burgundy current political/geographical maps and stylized shapes, showing current countries, major cities, capitols, and even ocean currents.
The Gea Gemini, though the most compact of the three semi-rotating floor globe bars, is by no means small and is equally matched in elegance and superb workmanship. Its impressive modern world globe, encompassed by a beautiful full meridian, houses a drinks cabinet that can store store 2 or 3 bottles and approximately 9 glasses, and rotates to provide easy access to the glassware.
Additional bottles can be stored on the laminated lower base shelf decorated with a beautiful unique wind rose that blends perfectly with the illustrated Zodiac ring around the bar globe’s equatorial line. The Northern and Southern hemispheres of the world globe itself also rotate independently when the globe bar cabinet is open. And all Gea bar globes are all easy to move from room to room because the hand-crafted solid hardwood legs are equipped with hidden casters for easy relocation.
The chestnut-colored stand and picturesque base harmonize superbly with the golden wheat and auburn shades that can be found on the exterior of the earth globe, a signature color combination that Zoffoli simply calls “Gea.”
Zoffoli has passed on the art of crafting world globes in Italy for over three generations. In addition to its celebrated antique-style replicas, it successfully combines traditional Italian craftsmanship with contemporary solutions to create works of globe furniture art like the Gea Gemini world globe floor-standing drinks cabinet.
It may not be that clear why the manufacturer named this collection Gea because in English it is actually Gaia. In Greek mythology, Gaia is the personification of the Earth and one of the Greek primordial deities. Gaia is the ancestral mother of all life: the primal Mother Earth goddess. So it is perfectly fitting to name a globe design collection after this deity.
The actual globe is named after the constellation Gemini. Its name is Latin for “twins,” and it is associated with the twins Castor and Pollux in Greek mythology.
