This corner globe drinks cabinet is a testament to the excellent craftsmanship and style that world renowned Zoffoli has given the world for the past 70 years. That this floor globe bar belongs to the manufacturer’s Universal Globe Collection can be deduced by the unique color combination of the globe, which Zoffoli simply calls “rust,” and by the 18th century map that has been hand drawn by Zoffoli’s master Italian cartographers.
The storage area inside the medium 16-inch diameter globe ball is sufficient to house a minimum of 2 bottles and approximately 9 glasses. Additional glassware can be stored on the base shelf which has a specially designed brass ring that serves as a bottle rack to house more bottles securely. It also features a beautiful illustration of a wind rose, which harmonizes perfectly with the Zodiac illustrations on the ring around its equatorial line.
Once opened the corner globe bar cabinet reveals beautiful illustrations on the inner dome, and since the northern hemisphere of the bar globe cabinet rotates you can find the best view. The hand turned hardwood legs of the globe bar’s floor stand are equipped with casters for easy mobility.
The legs are handcrafted from solid hardwood and stained a lovely chestnut color. The equatorial zodiac ring and base shelf are made of MDF and hand painted a chestnut color to match the legs.
Zoffoli aptly named this corner globe drinks cabinet after Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio, an Italian painter who employed close physical observation with a dramatic use of chiaroscuro that came to be known as tenebrism. He made the technique a dominant stylistic element, darkening shadows and transfixing subjects in bright shafts of light. His influence on the new Baroque style that emerged from Mannerism was profound. It can be seen directly or indirectly in the work of Peter Paul Rubens, Jusepe de Ribera, Gian Lorenzo Bernini, and Rembrandt, and artists in the following generation heavily under his influence were called the “Caravaggisti” or “Caravagesques”, as well as tenebrists or tenebrosi (“shadowists”).
