Long, ago, a man named Franklin Lloyd Wright (obviously, the same one The Wright Globe is named after), made a sketch. He was a famous architect, and he had designed over 1,000 structures in a span of 70 years. His design concepts were quite ahead of their time. He believed in what he called organic architecture – architecture that was in harmony with humanity and the environment.
So when the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation, an organization that has over 20,000 of his drawings archived, discovered a drawing of what really does resemble a floor stand for a globe, Replogle, currently the largest globe manufacturer in the world, sought permission to interpret the drawing and manufacture it. Hence the Wright globe.
No one can truly say what the real intent of the drawing was, for the only thing found on the sketch, besides the sketch itself, were the words “something like this,” written in his handwriting.

Being that Mr. Wright was one of the founders of the Prarie style of architecture that emerged in Chicago (also the home base of Replogle) around 1900, the conclusion was made that the drawing was an unidentified concept for one of these Prarie homes. According to Teaching by Design, a Frank Lloyd Wright Trust, “a Prairie house features bold, horizontal lines that echo the flat prairie landscape. Low, hipped roofs extend out beyond the walls, creating a sense of shelter and protection. Balconies and terraces line the exterior and are filled with plants and shrubs. Wright uses simple building materials, such as brick, wood, and plaster, and a natural color palette of reds, browns, yellows, greys and greens.
All of these elements help create a sense of balance and harmony and connect the building to the land upon which it is stands.” Wright himself was quoted as saying Prarie houses were “married to the ground.”
Replogle explains the concept of this authentic reproduction of the mysterious sketch in the following way: “The proportions, and interpretation, of the drawing were calculated based on the scale of other drawings from this time period.”
Having a history, even a story, behind something like The Wright Globe makes a piece of furniture in your home or office all the more interesting. It can even serve as a conversation piece at a gathering when something needs to break the ice. Owning a globe that is based on the drawings of a renowned architect and which is an interpretation of the dimensions and geometry of an architectural draft for a structure can surely serve as a centerpiece of both a conversation and the eye.
The rich, walnut-stained stand of The Wright Globe is in beautiful and bold contrast to the light globe sphere. The floor stand can be produced with various wood finishes upon request, so please contact us if you would like this realized.
